Meet Jan
Jan's Story
After suffering for over a week with what seemed to be simply a stiff neck, on Thursday, August 11, 2022 our Jan wok with excruciating neck pain and had lost all feeling and use of her limbs from the chest down. Her dear husband, Jeff, took her to the emergency facility in Nicholasville, KY and she was then transported to St. Joseph’s Hospital in Lexington, KY for an MRI which determined she had an abscess on her cervical spine. She was quickly prepped for surgery to drain/remove the abscess. Following the surgery, Jan was diagnosed as a tetraplegic, but today is able to stand and move her hands and arms to perform simple tasks that so many of us take for granted. These advances are thanks to her positive determination and countless hours of therapy.
Her recovery is ongoing.
If you know her, you know that she’s feisty and a fighter. Prior to her spinal cord injury, Jan lived an active life -running, playing with her grandchildren, acting, and dancing with Jeff.
